Hump Nite 2008 - Great Wheel Prize

Hump_nite_2008The long-standing tradition has kicked off it's 11th year.

For those that are unaware of the tradition, Hump Nite was the inspiration of Bob Frederick, a long time bartender of over 20 years at the Rainbow, and Roger Gibson, Bob's lover at the time who has subsequently passed away.  Bob and Roger wanted to do something at the Rainbow that would bring out the community in the dead of winter.  Roger suggested a mid-week potluck, and the tradition was born.  Each week carries a theme, and everyone is encouraged to bring out a dish to share.  At the end of the meal, people vote for the best entree and dessert, and prizes are awarded.  The Finale caps off the Hump Nite festivities with a return of the weekly winners going head to head.  This year's finale is March 12th, and it promises to be a lot of fun.

This is a wonderful community event.  The amount of energy and love that is put into each of the dishes is amazing.  And you don't have to bring a dish in order to enjoy the fun.  Every cook just likes to see lots of people enjoying their food, so don't let them down.  Come out and enjoy the fun.

Hump Nite features the return of the Wheel. We've added a great travel package prize.  We'll begin handing out tickets starting at 5pm on Wednesdays, with the first spin at 8pm.  The earlier you get to the Rainbow, the more tickets you can collect, and the larger likelihood that you'll get a chance at spinning the Wheel.

Giveback Tuesdays

Giveback_tuesdays In taking over the Rainbow Cattle Company, one of our top goals was to support the local community.  To that end, we have started a new tradition: Giveback Tuesdays.  Each week a local charity will be chosen.  10% of the sales for that Tuesday will be donated to the charity directly by us.  The more the community supports the Rainbow on a given Tuesday, the more the charity will get.  In addition, any money that is donated directly by the community, whether it be to make the train go round, or money placed in donation jars, will also be sent to the nominated charity for the week. If you want to nominate a local charity for consideration for a Giveback Tuesday, email us.

This has turned out to the a wonderful event, and a number of very deserving charities have received money.  Since it's start in late November of 2005, over $17,000 has been given to the following deserving charities:

New Year's "Do-Over"

Newyearsdoover As many of you may know, the New Year's Celebration at the Rainbow, and throughout Guerneville in general, was undermined by severe flooding.  Most of the businesses in the downtown area were thankfully unaffected, while those that did experience flooding are busily rebuilding and getting ready for what promises to be a great summer.

Given that we didn't have a real celebration, we decided to join forces with Liquid Sky to throw a "Do Over" event.  It was a lot of fun, with champagne and party hats to be had by all.

Rainbow Celebrates Christmas with a Gypsy Gift Exchange

Gift_exchange We started the 1st Annual Christmas Gypsy Gift Exchange at the Rainbow.  While there were only 8 people that participate, all of us had fun, and many expressed the hope that we would do it again next year.  Get the word out and hopefully next year it grows.  Here are the details of the exchange:

"Come out for Christmas Day and enjoy the afternoon with friends at the Rainbow Cattle Company.  As part of the fun, we'll be playing a game called Gypsy Christmas Exchange. Each person who wishes to participate should purchase a "unique" gift for NO MORE THAN $15 DOLLARS. Try to find something unique or useful that somebody might actually want ... not a gag gift. And again, the gift CANNOT exceed $15. Wrap the gift, put a tag on it with your name, bring it with you to the Rainbow, and the rest will be explained once you arrive.

Hope you'll come out and join the fun.  The gift exchange will run between 5-7pm.  You don't need to bring a gift to just hang out and laugh with everyone.  As always, everyone is welcome."

The Rainbow Moves Under New Ownership

<Insert of picture of Tim and Rob>  Starting August 16th, 2005, the Rainbow Cattle Company was taken over by Tim Eicher and Rob Giljum.  We have enjoyed the Rainbow for years, and welcome the responsibility as its newly appointed caretakers.  We hope to do the community and the tradition of of the Rainbow proud.

Welcome to the Rainbow Cattle Company

"It's all about The Vibe"

Hey everyone - Thanks for visiting the Rainbow Cattle Company's website.  Please let us know how we can use this website to better reflect our community and serve your needs.

The Rainbow all started back in 1979 when a man named Hans opened this Main Street Bar in the middle of downtown Guerneville, CA.  Hans, who owned many bars in San Francisco, planned The Rainbow to to serve the new gay tourists who were coming to The Redwood Forest to relax and party.  Maybe it was the mixing of Hans' personal touch with the beautiful Sonoma County countryside and the unstoppable Russian River Bohmeian Spirit - but a legend was born.

Since it opened its doors in 1979, The Rainbow has been a Northern California Party Destination - serving up carefree good times.

Maybe it's the rustuc interior paneling that has soaked up 25 years of split coctails, laughter and heavy cruising.  Maybe it's the warm smiles on familiar faces, or the sparkle in some new eyes before you kiss.  Maybe it's from finally seeing your mom in a GAY bar, and you can't get her to leave.

Maybe it's because one of our bartenders  has worked here for 20 years, or a bar in Austin, TX and Brattleboro, VT were named after us.  Or maybe it's about building a loving community together with our straight friends and neighbors.

Whatever it is, it is our job as the new owners to get out of the way and let The Rainbow express itself.

We hope you may always think of yourself as a Rainbow Regular, even if you're just able to join us once.

Cheers Queers!!!
